Rameswaram: The Land of Lord Rama's Legend

Ramanathaswamy Temple corridor and gopuram

Located on the beautiful Pamban Island in Tamil Nadu, Rameswaram is one of the holiest pilgrimage sites in India. The Sri Ramanathaswamy Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is revered as one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and also as a sacred Char Dham destination. According to Hindu epic Ramayana, Lord Rama worshiped Lord Shiva here to absolve his sins after the war against Ravana.

Rameswaram is famous for its magnificent temple corridors — the longest in the world — with towering gopurams, sacred water tanks (Theerthams), and a deep spiritual aura. The island is also connected to mainland India by the iconic Pamban Bridge, offering breathtaking views of the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean. Dhanushkodi – The Ghost Town & Ram Setu

Dhanushkodi is the southernmost tip of Rameswaram Island, located just 18 km from the main town. This ghost town was destroyed by a cyclone in 1964 and remains uninhabited. The ruins of the church, railway station, and houses stand as silent witnesses to nature's fury. From here, you can see the mythical Adam's Bridge (Ram Setu) — a chain of limestone shoals between India and Sri Lanka. The beach offers breathtaking sunrise and sunset views.

Note: Dhanushkodi is accessible only by jeep (local 4x4 vehicles). Our driver will help arrange a jeep from the drop point. Mobile network is very limited — inform family beforehand.

The Iconic Pamban Bridge

The Pamban Bridge is a engineering marvel connecting Rameswaram Island to mainland India. Built in 1914, it was India's first sea bridge. The bridge has a double-leaf bascule section that opens to allow ships to pass. Crossing this 2.3 km long bridge with the sea on both sides is a memorable experience. Watch for trains crossing — the view is spectacular.
